The New Way to Build Websites
With modern website builders, you build your website, on the website. And they host it and back it up and take responsibility for updates and security problems.
This is the modern way to go. Forget Dreamweaver and Wordpress [which you have to update frequently] and HTML editing and FTP and working about hosting and php upgrades [whatever those are, but I recently had to figure out how to upgrade php to keep wordpress working.] BLA. Go with Weebly, or squarespace or another of these modern services.

Weebly is Free if you don't mind a website that is http://YOURNAMEHERE.weebly.com
Unlimited pages, unlimited space, unlimited bandwidth.
If you want a custom domain then you need to buy Pro, for less than $5 / mo. $3.99/mo if paid annually or $2.99/mo if paid for 2 years. And with Pro you can buy a domain, or point your existing domain to your weebly site. [ Disclaimer: I am not a member of the weebly staff, do not have stock in weebly, and am not paid by weebly. All offers subject to change.]
Weebly is more flexible than WordPress since it assumes that you want a site not a blog. No plugins to worry about. You can have a blog as part of your site or photo gallery's as part of your site. Not a good idea if you post tons of pics to flickr or smugmug, but if you want to write long review articles or post your short fiction, then those sites are of no help.
Also, I found a pile of videos here:

Looks like a secondary school teacher built a bunch of videos for his students.
You don't need to Log In or make an account or anything. Just watch the videos to find out how weebly works.
Looks like this teacher is teaching his high school students to be web designers and maybe even make money using weebly designing websites for other folks.
There is a designer service, which allows you to build folks websites and rebrand your service and upcharge them for your services on top of weebly. Perfect to turn a bunch of high school students into web designers.
Want more control than FaceBook or Google Plus? Want control over how your information is presented and who monetizes it??
Weebly has no agenda. They don't scan your site and annoy you with ads or annoy your friends with your information. Present yourself on the web the way you want to be seen, not the way that Facebook wants you to be seen. Say what you want to say for as long as you want. No 235 character limits of twitter or short posts like Facebook or Google Plus. Write a long article on Raw Therapy or whatever you like. Post pictures of that special sunset and then share them the way you want to. [Tirade off]
Enjoy,
